About Us
JobsonThursday.co.uk is a local jobs website, free for employers to post vacancies and for jobseekers to browse. It is simple to use and displays adverts every Thursday. This website currently covers the Southampton area, and we hope to expand if it proves successful.
JobsonThursday.co.uk developed from an idea by Sam Goold, a Vocational Advisor, whose role involves helping people into employment. Sam saw the need for a local jobs website which listed real jobs, was not complicated and did not charge.
The website’s aims are:
- To help jobseekers find jobs easily in their local area
- To make it free and simple for employers to post job vacancies
- To be current
- To be uncluttered and easy to view
- Ultimately, to become the first place to look for local jobs
Questions answered
How does JobsonThursday.co.uk work?
Employers or employment agencies complete a simple online form for each job vacancy. This is sent to the site and uploaded every Thursday. Job adverts are posted live on the website for one week and are taken off either at the end of a week, or by the closing date of the job advert.
Why Thursday?
Thursday traditionally was jobs day in the local Southampton newspaper. However, with the rise of the internet and other media, job advertising became more dispersed. The costs of placing a job advert in the local newspaper also rose, putting it beyond the means of many local businesses. For jobseekers, these changes have meant it is difficult to find local job vacancies.
We also wanted to keep the idea of adverts going live once a week, believing it to be preferable to the potential jobseeker being stuck at a computer waiting for each new advert to be posted.
Why do I have to fill in every section?
We think it is important to put the basic information in a job advert so the jobseeker is clear from the outset about the position they are applying for. If you are an employer or agency and don't know the information for a particular section, you can put 'TBC' or 'Not yet known' etc.
Can I place more than one job advert?
Yes.
When are jobs taken down?
By the closing date. If there is no closing date we will take them down after a week.
